Our Story
Cloudwalker's Story
Cloudwalker takes its name from the Taoist renunciates of ancient China, living on the fabled but steep Hua and Mao mountains.  The peasants living below believed the “cloudwalkers” to be immortal and the keepers of mystical powers, largely because their perspective suggested the renunciates could walk on the clouds.  The cloudwalkers chose a different path than the Taoists to enlightenment: Cha Dao or "the way of tea" is considered by ancient Chinese spiritual envoys to be “one way.”  The cloudwalkers were believed to straddle the boundary between earth and the heavens; drinking Chinese teas and meditating is also thought to do this.

Pu erh, oolong and other fine teas at Cloudwalker are each selected in the same tradition as that of revered and mystical cha dao tea masters in China and Taiwan. Our affinity with tea runs very deep. As such, we are strict proponents of the idea that good tea by its very nature must meet with a series of essential characteristics: cleanliness, purity, quality, flavour and chi. Our involvement in the tea world is based solely upon a love of tea and the desire to share tea and teach others of its tremendous potential for affecting positive changes in body, mind and spirit.

Tea masters do not traditionally offer any teas, which contain pesticides or any manner of pollution and this essential difference is palpable when one experiences our teas. This standard may not be upheld across the board in the tea industry but it certainly is here and this is why we invite those who truly love tea to taste our teas. Our own love for these leaves truly knows no bounds. Cloudwalker was fortunate to make the acquaintance of several tea masters in Taiwan and Asia and was accepted into the meditation circle of one tea master in particular (who prefers to remain un-named) where he passed on much of his knowledge of Cha Dao through conversation in Mandarin Chinese and traditional pouring practices originating in Fujian province, China.

One day, over a particularly special pu erh infusion, this revered master of tea suggested to Cloudwalker that he begin introducing Cha Dao and some of these fine Chinese teas to the North American and European markets.  Although overwhelmed by the prospect at first, Cloudwalker did eventually agree to do so. All teas with the Cloudwalker trademark have been chosen for their rich aromas, flavours and chi properties and Cloudwalker is proud to be able to offer them outside of Asia where they were and are very special and very rare.
