Tea and Meditation
The practice of drinking tea and meditating originated in China over the course of several thousand years. The extraordinary chi energy inherent to well grown, hand-picked and processed Chinese tea, aids in creating a meditative state for the dedicated tea drinker. As the drinker sips slowly on a chi rich cup of tea, the energy of each tea washes over his or her being, and builds on the drinker's own energy. Some suggest that over time and with dedicated meditation and use of tea, the tea will help illuminate the path to enlightenment, even carrying us to the doorway. Once at the doorway however, it remains up to us to open it and walk through. For those whom have trouble clearing their mind for meditation, tea is certainly one answer.
One particularly important method for drinking tea and meditating is to combine teas. Drinking a green or fresh oolong tea before drinking a pu erh tea is the perfect way to "prime the body and mind" for the much deeper and penetrating energy of the pu erh. And to truly experience the sublime, follow the pu erh with a good cliff tea. The experience can be described as nothing less than peaceful and for many it is deeply meditative and refreshing. We have chosen only teas rich in chi energy, based on the tradition of Chinese tea masters in Taiwan. All of our teas are hand-picked and processed, contributing to their inherent chi energy.
Tea and meditation works particularly well when practiced with other body chi enhancement martial arts, such as tai chi or internal kung fu. One criticism of our belief in cha chi (tea energy) is that this elusive "chi" is nothing more than the caffeine of tea. In response, researchers in the U.K. have found that well aged pu erh tea is actually caffeine free. Although this is not true of the fresh teas (green, white and fresh oolong), the caffeine content is negligible when compared to a cup of coffee. So there is something much more powerful at work than a simple chemical process. There is something deeper. For our teas, it is chi.
